Footprint Wins Print Excellence Award for Sustainable Innovation

(June 3, 2026) Recognition highlights breakthrough in direct printing on molded fiber, advancing scalable, environmentally sound packaging solutions.

Footprint has been awarded a Print Excellence Award, Best of Category: Environmentally Sound by the Print Creative Alliance, an organization that supports and advocates for the graphic communications industry across 13 Western states.

This category recognizes work that advances more sustainable printing practices, including environmentally sound materials and processes. The award reflects continued progress in how Footprint is innovating within fiber-based packaging.

The recognition is for Footprint’s fiber drinking cup featuring direct printing of logos, QR codes, and other graphics. The work addressed a long-standing technical challenge.

High-quality printing is typically achieved on smooth surfaces. Molded fiber, by contrast, has natural texture, including vent holes and uneven surfaces. These conditions make it difficult to deliver consistent, high-resolution print quality.

The team successfully demonstrated that this can be achieved reliably at a commercial scale.

This effort was led by Bemly Randeniya, Principal Engineer, who developed the direct printing capability from concept through production.

As Bemly shared:

“This recognition is incredibly meaningful because it reflects what’s possible when persistence, curiosity, and teamwork come together. Printing directly on molded fiber surfaces has long been considered a challenge, and this award validates the effort it took to rethink what was possible and bring a new capability to life. I’m proud of what our team achieved and grateful to be part of a company that encourages innovation and isn’t afraid to push boundaries.”

This achievement reflects the type of technical innovation happening across Footprint and how it translates into practical, scalable solutions for customers.
